Combat is driven by d6 dice. Your Combat stat determines how many dice you have — more power means more dice. Each turn you choose how many dice to attack with. Any dice you don't use automatically roll to block incoming damage. Every attack costs stamina, so spending it all leaves you with nothing to defend.
Stamina determines how many of your dice are usable each turn — one die per 6 stamina. Each die you attack with costs stamina. At the end of every turn your Resilience restores some stamina automatically. Let it drain too far and you'll have fewer dice for both attacking and blocking.
🛡️ Defend — skip your attack and commit all your dice to blocking the enemy's strike. The best option when you need to take as little damage as possible. Stamina still restores at end of turn.
💨 Flee — your dice defend one final enemy attack. If you take no damage, you escape. Otherwise you stay and keep fighting.
🧪 Potion — use mid-combat without consuming your turn. Healing restores HP instantly. Regeneration heals over several turns. Stamina fully restores your stamina pool. Strength adds +1 attack die and +1 die of stamina recovery per turn for several turns. Invisibility causes the enemy to miss next turn (great for fleeing). Speed gives you two attacks in one turn or guarantees escape.
Your armor reduces all incoming damage by a flat amount — it stacks on top of your blocking dice. Enemies can also have armor that reduces your damage, and smarter enemies will split their dice between attacking and defending when wounded. Better weapons and a higher Combat stat let you roll more dice and overwhelm their defenses.
